<p>It was another fun-filled training day last Saturday as fifty-one participants learned new running drills, techniques and circuit workouts.</p>
<p>“We’re happy to see new faces in the group. Truly, everyone is welcome to join us here,” an official statement of HyperSports Team.</p>
<p>More running drills were introduced to the participants as they get a feeling of how track athletes start their training routine.  A new set of circuit workout which includes some core exercises followed.</p>
<p>Elite guest athlete Rene Hererra once again graced the event and gave pointers on proper running mechanics.  He also had a simple discussion with the participants which were all amazed when he told them his personal record in the 5K run. Rene likewise explained to them how important rest and recovery is to runners.</p>

<p>More new participants joined the fun as HyperSports conducts another well attended 2nd training session last Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the PhilSports (formerly ULTRA) Track &amp; Field oval.</p>

<p>After some drills conducted by coach Ninoy Marayag, the participants were asked to do two sets of basic interval circuit training. These type of workout consists of different timed exercises followed by short rest interval in between.</p>

<p>To introduce something fun to the participants, they were asked to form three relay groups. As their final workout, they did a 12x200m relay where the last placed group were treated to a prize of crawling between the legs of all the winning team. Coach Djundi Binas even joined one of the group as one of the runners, and to the delight of all the participants, he too was part of the losing group.</p>
<p><em>“Babawi tayo next time, humanda sila! Haha!”</em>- coach Djundi said in jest to his group.</p>

<p>The training session which is part of the Get Fit 2012 program of HSPI was highlighted by the sharing of experiences and running tips from its guest elite athlete, <a href="http://www.hypersports.ph/featured-athlete-rene-herrera-athletics-3000m-steeplechase/">Rene Herrera</a>.  Herrera is a five-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 3,000m Steeplechase champion; the recent gold medal came from November 2011 edition of the biennial games held at Indonesia.</p>

Basic fitness and running drills and workouts were introduced in this first training session.</p>

<p>Also one of the highlights of the event is the 2012 Run &#8211; a 2,012 metres run which was derived from the tagline “Get Fit 2012” as their last workout where some elite members of the group joined and ran with the participants. A road race timing device and an RFID timing chip was used in the run of five full laps in the track and an additional twelve meters.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A member of the national team for over a decade, Navy man Rene Herrera began off playing second fiddle to Eduardo &#8220;Vertek&#8221; Buenavista in the 3k Steeplechase.</p>
<p>When the illustrious Vertek decided to move up to the 5k and 10k, Herrera quickly became the dominant force in the steeplechase and continued the Philippines&#8217; ownership of the Sea Games championship in that event from 2003 and beyond.</p>
<p><center><img class="size-full wp-image-194 aligncenter" title="herrera-asian-games" src="http://www.hypersports.ph/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/herrera-asian-games.jpg" alt="" width="594" height="396" /></center>At 32 years of age, Herrera went into the Sea Games up against two very strong Vietnamese opponents but the veteran rose to the challenge fighting all the way to the line for his 5th consecutive Sea Games title and delivered one of the only 2 golds for the Philippines.</p>
